Cornucopia | 2009

Amit Zoran and Marcelo Coelho

Cornucopia is a concept design for digital gastronomy, a futuristic cooking methodology based on digital technologies.

A Journey Story: Comics and Objects | 2007

Amit Zoran (Bezalel MDes. final project, advisor Yaacov Kaufman)

This is a story of a traveler, living his hometown one day with a passion to search, but without knowing what exactly is he looking for, or where to look for it.

Dragonfly | 2008

Amit Zoran

A concept desig (renering) of a motorcycle.

Selected Projects

reAcoustic eGuitar

Amit Zoran and Pattie Maes

This research considers the controversy of modern acoustic instruments, and explores the use of 3D prating to design and fabrication of acoustic instruments.

Digital Fabrication and Design of Musical Instruments | 2008

Amit Zoran

This research considers the controversy of modern acoustic instruments, and explores the use of Additive Manufacturing (AM) to design and fabrication of acoustic instruments.

Hybrid Basketry | 2013

Amit Zoran

Hybrid basketry is a medium where 3D-printed structures are shaped to allow the growth and development of hand-woven patterns.

Chameleon Guitar | 2009

Amit Zoran and Pattie Maes

The Chameleon Guitar presents a new approach to the design and fabrication of instruments that combine the advantage of acoustic and electric instruments, existing simultaneously in both physical and digital environments.

Life in a Comic | 2008

Amit Zoran and Pattie Maes

This project explores the option of bringing paint to life by using thermochromic ink and through the design of watercolor and paper paint that visually change to tell a story.

TRANSFORM | 2014

Hiroshi Ishii, Daniel Leithinger, Sean Follmer, Amit Zoran, Philipp Schoessler

TRANSFORM fuses technology and design to celebrate its transformation from a piece of still furniture to a dynamic machine driven by the stream of data and energy.

Inkjet-printed Conductive Patterns for Physical Manipulation of Audio Signals | 2013

Nan-Wei Gong, Amit Zoran and Joe Paradiso

This project presents the realization of an aesthetically driven conductive image as a multi-modal music controller.

FreeD: Human-Computer Collaboration in 3D Craft | 2013

Amit Zoran, Roy Shilkrot and Joe Paradiso

FreeD is a handheld digital milling device, which is tracked and controlled with reference to a virtual 3D model, and allows unskilled makers to produce complex carving tasks, as well as personalizing and modifying the digital 3D models while carving.

Oil Lamp Towers | 2005

Amit Zoran and Yana Voldman

Based on the physics of the connected vessels law, separating flame from oil. A hidden pipe, embedded inside wood laminations layers, connecting the container with the flame.

Hybrid reAssemblage | 2012

Amit Zoran and Leah Buechley

This project combines digital fabrication and craft in a work involving object destruction and restoration: an intentionally broken crafted artifact and a 3D printed restoration.

Digital Airbrush: Physical Rendering with a Digital Tool | 2014

Roy Shilkrot, Pattie Maes, Joe Paradiso, Amit Zoran

The Digital Airbrush is an augmented device that acts both as a physical spraying device and an intelligent digital guiding tool, which maintains both manual and computerized control.

Cutting Edge Vision: Metal Embedded Optics for Smart Knives | 2015

Amit Zoran, NanWei Gong, Roy Shilkrot, Shuo Yan, Pattie Maes

Cutting Edge Vision presents a design for a kitchen knife with fiber optics between the edge of the blade and the handle, with a skin-color sensor aiming to lead to future work on minimizing cooking injuries.

Hybrid Practice in the Kalahari | 2015

Jennifer Jacobs and Amit Zoran

This project studies how non-digital craft cultures can inform the design of digital tools. To evaluate this approach, we visited a hunter-gatherer community that preserves traditional craft, bringing with us digital design and fabrication tools and seeking ways to collaborate.

Steel-Sense: Integrating Machine Elements with Sensors by 3D Printing | 2016

Tatyana Vasilevitsky and Amit Zoran

Steel-Sense is an approach to joining the two families of machine elements and sensors using 3D printing to create a new type of design primitive.

The Hybrid Bricolage - Bridging Parametric Design with Craft | 2016

Tamara Efrat, Moran Mizrahi and Amit Zoran

This project studies how to introduce parametric design tools to craftspersons. Our hypothesis is that the arrangement of parametric design in modular representation, in the form of a catalog, can assist makers unfamiliar with this practice.

Digital Gastronomy | 2011 - Current

M Mizrahi, A Golan, A B Mizrahi, R Gruber, A Lachnish, M Coelho, D Cohen and Amit Zoran

Digital Gastronomy is a vision were traditional cooking is infused with new digital abilities via hybrid recipes. Our hybrid recipes import parametric design tools into cooking, allowing the cook to personalize the tastes, flavors, structures and aesthetics of dishes.

Digital Joinery For Hybrid Carpentry | 2017

Shiran Magrisso, Moran Mizrahi and Amit Zoran

This work contributes an interactive design process in which  joints are generated digitally to allow for unrestricted beam connectors, then produced using 3D printing, exemplifing the potential of Digital Joinery to enhance traditional carpentry with new affordances.

DPARAMETRIC HABITAT: Virtual Catalog of Design Prototypes | 2018

Rony Ginosar, Hila Kloper and Amit Zoran

We envision the use of catalogues in parametric design, replacing abstract design procedures with a given set of visual options to select from and react to. We contribute an embryonic (parametric mushroom) catalog generated from a formal list of parameters.

Design with Minimal Intervention: Drawing with Light and Cracks | 2018

N Dick, N Glauber, A Yehezkeli, M Mizrahi, S Reches, M Ben-Yona, Anna Carmi, Amit Zoran

In this project we rely on crackle, an explicit pottery phenomenon that renders a pattern of cracks in ceramic glazing, to produce craft-unique outcomes in a moderately controlled design process using clay pre- processing laser  post-processing of the glaze.
