Integration of Classical and Computational Systems within HCI and Design Research
Hybrids explores the two divergent realms of computational technologies and classical hand-hewn skills, seeking a new way of thinking about these polarities: the digital machine, as generator of control and efficacy, and the human hand, as preserver of subjective intentions and expressivity. Today I am a Senior Lecturer at the School of Engineering and Computer Science at the Hebrew University, where my research lab explores the integration of craft, design and technology. I have a PhD and MS from the MIT Media Lab, MDes from Bezalel, and BSc in Comunication System Engineering from BGU.

Interaction in Hybrid Mediums
This research explores the interaction space with smart handheld tools, which can work in conjunction with human manual operation. These handheld instruments provide a functional or informative augmentation to assist its native operation, and allow for an intimate experience.
This study intent to merge computational technologies (from 3D printing to sensing capabilities) within traditional design and craft (such as ceramic, wood working, basketry and more), and unifying the digital and electronic practice with structural and aesthetic ones.
In this research we examining the apparent human need to make things, documenting varying craft techniques and their social context, as reflected in the works of activists in the rising fields of digital fabrication, do-it-yourself (DIY) movement, and traditional practices.
